An event of international span opens the 2015-2016 season
Arad State Philarmonic sets the tone for a season which is expected to bring a wealth of pleasant surprises to the public, through a one-of-a-kind event: the staging of the famous Tosca opera, in an iconic location for the city – Arad Fortress.
The opera show is the result of a welcome partnership between Arad Stat Philarmonic and the Ministry of National Defense – U.M. 01249, whereas the local premiere of Tosca is dedicated to the Days of Veterans from the Theatres of Operations.
“Puccini’s masterpiece depicts the synthesis between Verdian tradition and Verism through a complex combination of sentimental lyricism and the heroical – tragical traits of the theatrical performance. In a strongly focused form, highlighting the confrontation of differing temperaments, Sardou’s play “orchestrated” by Puccini will be presented to our public in Arad, 115 years after its premiere in Rome, this time dedicated to the veterans of… theatres of operations. Un event which foreshadows a truly special performance, in an unusual setting, abounding in history.” – dr. Alin Văcean, Arad Philharmonic manager
“We await our public – for the first time in the Fortress of Arad – with a cultural act of international amplitude, opening the season of the year which sees the official entry of our city in the competition for the title of European Capital.”
The 1st of October therefore becomes a reference date for the artistic institution, an accomplishment made with the common input of our symphonic orchestra and academic choir, conducted by Robert Daniel Rădoiaș, of the direction signed by Nicolae Mihai Brânzeu, of a rigorously selected distribution – soprano Erdenetuya Balgansuren (Tosca), Michael Sheshaberidze (Cavaradossi), Paride Pandolfo (Scarpia), Octavian Vlaicu (Angelotti), Gelu Dobrea (the Sacristan), David Buzgău (Sciarrone/the Warden), Mirela Cusursuz (the Shepherd) and last but not least, of maestro Roberto Salvalaio’s conducting concept.
Written on a libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica, inspired by Victor Sardou’s play, Tosca was first staged at Teatro Constanzi in Rome, on the 14th January 1900, with a distribution where the lead feminine character was played by Hariclea Darclée, a soprano of Romanian origins. Puccini’s musical score ideally adorns the intrigue, while for over a century, the popularity of the musical piece is constantly based on its dramatic success, on its truly unique melodiousness and on its theatrical subtlety.
