In 2004, Bega Blues Band was honored as the best Romanian blues-jazz group.
In January 2010, after the loss of Bela Kamocsa, Johnny Bota took over the leadership of the band. A group led by and founded at the initiative of Lucian Nagy, renown artist from Arad, after the first concert led in the present formula, which took place in February 2012, in Berlin. The name of “Balkumba Tribe” highlights the heterogeneous influences of the musical cultures manifested in the band’s music, the idea behind this name stemming from the study of “World Music” genre, which Lucian Nagy has been practicing for several years now.
Balkumba Tribe puts forth a music both eclectic and well-built and unitary – a sign of a successful collaboration of visibly different artists who have found each other in the fusion of various influences and styles: etno-jazz, balkanic music, indo-african music, latin-african music and groove. Every member of the “Tribe” has studied alongside musical masterminds of the fore-mentioned genres, a fact which becomes obvious in their music, which reflects their dedication and well-rooted passion for the thorough knowledge of the art and music pertaining to cultures afar from the Occidental ones – which the band ultimately conveys in a very expressive manner to the music-loving public.
