Four evenings of great music and memorable performances, four evenings spent with established contemporary jazz artists, in a special location in Arad – this is what the second edition of American Music & Jazz Festival brought us, in June.
Hundreds of Arad residents showed up in the park near Lake Padurice on each festival evening, as the scene set up on the Lake drew music lovers of all ages. The festival opened with a special staging of “My Fair Lady” musical, organised by Arad Philharmonic in collaboration with the students of the main singing class of the Music Faculty within West University of Timisoara.
The second festival day brought the artists from ADRIAN GASPAR QUINTET, with a repertory of electrifying jazz songs, bearing oriental influences, and SEBASTIAN SPANACHE TRIO, which presented a contemporary mix of jazz, post-bop and fusion.
Our beloved local artist, Lucian Nagy, performed on the third festival evening, with both bands which went on stage under the heavy applause of the public: BEGA BLUES BAND and BALKUMBA TRIBE. The concert of the longevous band from Timisoara, already a symbol of blues/jazz music in western Romania, was followed by a performance of the group founded by Lucian Nagy in 2014, which continued the series of unique musical shows with etno-jazz and world music pieces, with eclectic references.
The American Music and Jazz Festival ended on Sunday, 21st June, with the performances of BRAMAX QUINTET, a group of talented Serbian jazz musicians, and JAMIE SMITH’S MABON, a band which staged a captivating show of original inter-Celtic music.
“We thank our lovely public for its impressive presence, which brought the 4 festival days to life and which further motivates us to grow the quality of every artistic show.” – Alin Văcean, Manager of Arad Philharmonic
The 2014-2015 season, which closes with the concert scheduled on 28th June (which will also take place at Lake Padurice) was rich in special shows and musical events – “Open Air” Opera Gala, “Alexandru Fărcaș” International Voice Competition, Arad Musical Autumn, The Contemporary Music Festival and the recent American Music & Jazz Festival.
