Famous arias from Italian operas, as well as a generous collection of Neapolitan canzonets, sum up the subjects of the latest OPEN AIR opera gala, which is set to return to the Reconciliation Park this year, on Saturday, September 3rd, at 7 PM.
For its tenth edition, the event presents a more dynamic repertory, offering opera music lovers, along with the wonderful selection of Italian XIXth century arias, the most fascinating titles from the entire history of the canzonet, a journey through the nearly one century history of this musical genre – from its very beginning, marked by the splendid Te Voglio bene assaje or Santa Lucia, to its peak, celebrated by the timeless Torna e Surriento, Core’ngrato, O sole mio…. The Neapolitan parts are prepared with the orchestration and arrangements made available by the Vincenzo Bellini Association for the Philharmonic, versions supervised by Giuseppe Carannante.
We stay faithful to the opera genre, though, through the selection of works by Bellini, Verdi and Puccini, inviting you to a rendez-vous with the dramatic arias from The Puritans (Ah, Per sempre io ti perdei) or The force of destiny (Pace mio Dio), with the great favorites of Tosca (Recondita armonia) or Turandot (Nessun dorma), but also with one of the most coquettish waltzes in the world’s lyrical repertory – Musette from La Boheme.
The Symphonic Orchestra and the Academic Choir conducted by Robert Daniel Rădoiaş join the Gala’s special guests for this year – conductor Giuseppe Carannante, sopranos Marialucia Caruso and Antonietta Siniscalchi, tenor Francesco Malapena and baritone Pier Luigi Dilengite, a 100% Italian distribution, to which we owe both the artistic conception and the selection for this inspired and truly original September evening.
