Giacomo Puccini – Messa di Gloria
Traditionally, in the last week of each month we return to sacred music themes, our October repertoire being highlighted by Giacomo Puccini’s Messa di Gloria, a decisive score for the composer’s career, created in 1880.
Written and presented by Puccini in order to obtain the diploma exam at the Musical Institute of Lucca, the mass demonstrates the proximity to the spectacular area of later lyrical productions, its true vocation can already be seen in its parts, two of them being taken over and readapted in works Edgar and Manon Lescaut. Designed for four voices, tenor and baritone solos with orchestral accompaniment, the work respects the traditional sections of the mass – Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei – acquiring its title due to the importance given to the second part, Gloria, which occupies almost half the extent of the whole opposition.
On Thursday evening, October 28, 2021, at 19.00, you can listen to it again on the Philharmonic stage, in a performance common to the two concert ensembles, their conductors, Cristian Neagu and Robert Daniel Rădoiaș, as well as the lyrical artists of the choir. academic, tenor Ioan Moțiu and baritone David Buzgău.
