Italian opera galla, under the lead of master Giuseppe Carannante

The second week of April brings an Italian opera concert, a new frame of the peninsular XIX century, which summons orchestral overtures, arias and choirs selected among the most famous opera concerts.

”For every music lover, the Italian opera is a milestone in the great lyrical literature, a self recollection in the timeless pages which adorn our bustling daily life. This week, we offer you such a moment, a special guest being seated at our conducting desk – the Italian master Giuseppe Carannante.” – dr. Alin Văcean, manager al Filarmonicii de Stat Arad.

The chronology of our musical route proposed for the evening of April 14th lies its borders along the creations signed by Gioacchino Rossini and Giacomo Puccini, while also adding three more reference names in the lyrical art: Giuseppe Verdi, Ruggiero Leoncavallo and Pietro Mascagni. If to Rossini, only one audition number is saved in our programme (the famous overture in the opera Semiramide), Puccini marks his presence with three masterpiece fragments: Mimi’s aria in La bohème (1896), the Silent choir in Madame Butterfly (1904) and Lauretta aria in Gianni Schicchi (1918). Giuseppe Verdi is honored with the famous choirs of Lombardi (The pilgrims’ choir) and Nabucco (The slaves’ choir), but also with aria Leonore from The Troubadour, whereas the small-sized operas signed by Ruggiero Leoncavallo and Pietro Mascagni reaffirm other successful numbers: Stridono lassù, aria Nedda from Harlequins and the instrumental Intermezzo – Aria Santuzza with choir – from Cavalleria rusticana.

The symphonic ensemble and academic choir conducted by Robert Daniel Rădoiaş is joined by soprano Cristina Radu and conductor Giuseppe Carannante, the latter demonstrating his componistic competence once again, by inserating among the announced lyrical numbers a musical piece of recent date – Sognando, for clarinet and orchestra, a work entrusted for performance to clarinet artist Dan Chiş. Its musicality inspired by vocals, the composition motivates its presence with the unique timbre of the clarinet and also with the plasticity and easiness of the instrument.
