We welcome December with a special symphonic concert

“We have entered a special space and time of the year, when we prepare for one of the greatest Christian holidays. This is why the Philharmonic programme in December will bring forth a series of works destined to enrich and provoke musical epiphanies in the souls of the audience.” – dr. Alin Văcean, manager of Arad Philharmonic.

The month of December begins with a symphonic programme, the evening of December 3rd gathering a number of delightful pieces, with a certain impact upon the audition. The carol, specifically the first part of The Rustic Entertainment by Sabin Dragoi, leads the programme conducted by Cristian Neagu, transposing two of the most wonderful ancient ritual carol, “Oh, how wonderful tidings” and “Under the red rising”.

Once we have settled the December holidays atmosphere, we can allow ourselves to jump forward to Beethoven’s creation from the end of the XIXth century – the 12 Contredanses (WoO 14) being known today as the pieces which faciltated Beethoven’s access to Wien while the latter was still under the dominance of Haydn and Mozart, in a citadel of music, where one of the main interest points was entertaining and circumstantial music.

The finale of the first half of the evening’s symphonic concert is sealed by Bela Bartók’s Romanian folk dances, through which, while avoiding replication and scholarly copies, the XXth centrury great musician revives a cultural patrimony by a profound assimilation of folklore.

Beethoven, at the brim of affirming his symphonic “language”, makes his comeback after a break in the orchestral programme, revealed in the pages of his Ist Symphony, in do major, op. 21, a milestone in the music of the year 1800, which emphasizes the composer’s genius and a language of a century which still dominates universal auditions nowadays.
