Love songs from the madrigal singers of the XVIth century to the pop-rock refrains of the past few decades.

Celebrate the women in your lives with a superb concert, on the evening of 8th March

From the parodical madrigals and exaggerated love declarations of the Renaissance (signed by Orlando di Lasso and Pierre Passereau), the inspiration of o programme dedicated to the women we love motivates the gesture and invitation to an hour of music in the hall of the Military Centre. The evening of 8th March is spent with the Academic Choir of the Philharmonic, conducted by Robert Daniel Rădoiaş, and with the choral masterpieces inspired by love poetry from the Romanian and universal lyric alike.

Miniatures devoted to love, filled with the dynamic and verve of the mundane, madrigales are approached within the perspective of the most polished laic refrains, virtual genre depictions, perfectly integrated in the repertory of chamber ensembles.

The madrigales are followed by a selection of romantic texts from great XIXth century poets, seven musical autographs inspired by the poetry of Mihai Eminescu, Vasile Popovici, Tudor Flondor, Vasile Spătărelu and Vasile Timis, but also by a lenghty selection of the most beautiful numbers from Liebeslieder op. 52 and Neue Liebeslieder op. 65 by Johannes Brahms, the famous colections of free translations of love poetry from the universal lyric by Georg Friedrich Daumer. The marvellous love songs, imagined by Brahms on the metric support offered by the waltz genre, encompass the entire range of feelings and emotions, from the naive filosofical perspective to the provocative, impulsive expression, love being reflected through simple stories or passional outbursts, through dreamy melancholy or deep devotion.

The finale belongs, though, to the XXth century. Freddie Mercury and one of the mot beautiful ballads of the past decades – Love of My Life, from the 1975 album A Night at the Opera, and also Louis Armstrong’s 1967 success – What a Wonderful World, signed by George David Weiss and Bob Thiele, a perfect panorama of the world of simplicity and love, conclude our choral gift for the month of March.

The evening’s programme is brought to life by soprano Florica Burduleanu, mezzosopranos Daciana Rădoiaş and Monica Valea, tenor Ioan Moţiu and baritone David Buzgău, with the accompaniment of pianists Sorin and Adriana Dogariu.
