The chamber genre and its ensemble of excellency – the string quartet – opens a new series of concerts: a recital in the Ferdinand Hall of Arad City Hall, on the evening of th 17th October, at 7 PM. Pieces dating back to the beginning of the XXth century, signed by Viktor Ulmann, Simon Laks and Erwin Schuloff mark the event prepared by the four protagonists – Alexandra Crişan Ist violin, Carmen Păulescu IInd violin, Marcel Cameniţă – viola, Diana Ivaşcu cello – outlining a picture of Europe dominated by war and concentration camps.

The Jewish origin of the composers gathered by the audition programme, and also the – final, for some – experiences in the Nazi camps from Auschwitz, Dachau or Wülzburg define an authentic sonorous memorial, filled with memories profoundly rooted in the destiny of artists…

May we also recall the following facts for our public for the evening:
– Viktor Ullman (1898 – 1944) died on 18th October 1944, in an Auschwitz gas chamber.
– Simon Laks (1901 – 1983) went through the “Auschwitz experience” and survived the concentration camp in Dachau, being released by Americans on 29th April 1945.
– Erwin Schulhoff (1894 – 1942) died of tuberculosis on 18th August 1942, in the concentration camp from Wülzburg.
