Masterpieces of contemporary music
The evening of March 17th 2016 comes with one of the most provocative proposals in the entire season, an evening with repertorial rarities, scores included sporadically or in premiere in the Philharmonic programme. Chosen as to define the evolution of the XXth century musical language with clarity, while at the same time allowing for the status of first-class scores which is attibuted to every opus included in our audition, the works comprised in Thursday’s concert prepare a unique event, entirely “managed” by conductor Cristian Neagu.
From the most extensive chamber formula, that including 10 solo instruments, and one of George Enescu’s most famous works, Dixtuor op. 14, the first fragment of the evening is launched towards an experience pertaining to the past few decades – the Concert for piano and electroacoustic environment by Maia Ciobanu, an openly romantic piece which maintains the instrumental concert frame while bringing pianist Sorin Dogariu at the front of this performance.
We meet again with Enescu’s creation after the break, with his splendid Ballad for violin and orchestra, interpreted by first violin player Florin Gherghel. The ballad merely introduces the symphonic danses, initiated by the 3 Danses of Transylvania by Bela Bartok, the programme advancing with the dynamic Siciliana Blues, a piano work signed by Cornel Taranu, one of the most prominent voices of the composition school of Cluj.
